Terms

These terms apply to yarnweightchart.com. By using the site, you agree to use its reference data and calculations as practical craft guidance rather than a guarantee of fit, fabric, safety, stock, or product performance.

What the tool provides

The site translates yarn-weight terminology, ranks likely CYC categories from measurements, and calculates candidate-yarn quantity from the numbers you enter. Some outputs are exact arithmetic; other outputs are standards guidance, published conventions, or explicitly labelled editorial comparison rules.

Yarn substitution limitation

Yarns in the same category—or with similar metres per 100 g—can still differ in fibre, twist, ply structure, loft, elasticity, drape, durability, wash behavior, and color. A compatibility verdict identifies a candidate worth investigating; it never means the yarns are interchangeable.

Follow the pattern instructions, check manufacturer labels, make a swatch in the pattern stitch, wash or block it as the finished item will be treated, and measure the result before purchasing or using project quantity.

Input and rounding responsibility

Results depend on the units and values you enter. Ball counts are rounded up. Planning contingency is optional and does not replace pattern-specific allowances. Held-strand calculations assume each metre worked consumes one metre from every strand.

Reference scope

The chart covers the published CYC categories 0–7 and named regional comparison sources reviewed on 15 August 2026. Terminology and manufacturer practices can change. Japanese, UK, Australian, and New Zealand comparisons are ranges where sources disagree; they are not universal legal standards.

No professional or commercial warranty

The site is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or uninterrupted availability, to the extent permitted by law. Verify important decisions against the current pattern and yarn manufacturer information.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, the site operator is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or economic loss arising from use of the site, including wasted yarn, project rework, fit differences, or purchasing decisions. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Permitted use

You may use the public tool and print its reference chart for personal, educational, or ordinary professional craft work. Do not interfere with the service, attempt unauthorized access, misrepresent the site’s output as a certification, or republish the complete site as your own service.

Changes

These terms may be updated when the product or applicable requirements change. The effective date above identifies the current version.
